Northwest Hill is a three-song project written in three weeks during one specific and special time in early 2011. The songs talk about desires, heartache and departure. They all mean a whole lot to me, and were recorded in my bedroom. It is a little bit of everything.

This quote from Kathy Parsons sums up what the heart of an artist is all about:

“An unfortunate aspect of being an artist is that it is often life’s most painful experiences that bring out the best of their artistic expression. Emotional extremes make us all dig deeper into who we are, but most artistic personalities have the capability of going much deeper and feeling those emotional extremes even more intensely. It’s an odd mixture of blessing and curse, but when the result is a creation that is superior to anything an artist has done before, it takes away some of the sting.”

Track Name: If You Were The One
If you were the one
If you were the right and the wrong
The flickering light
The fireworks in the skies

If you were the one
If you could sparkle as the sun
Would you brighten my day?
Would you ease my pain?

If you were the one
The only place left to call home
The burning fire
That burns in my cold heart

I love it when your face beams
And when our eyes meet
It gets hard to breathe
And then our cheeks stretch and shape a smile
We can't help it.

If you were the one
The silence after the storm
The words unspoken
The pictures on my walls
Track Name: You're a Bird
Thought that it'd be gone by now
I'm striving to survive
The ocean depth of those sky eyes
They keep me up at night

There ain't no reason to pretend
Or be afraid of heights
What shade of color do you see in me
when blue is all I've got?

You're a bird
And no one will ever cage you
You're a bird

You're a bird
And love will never cage you
You're a bird

Soaring up above so high
You know a thousand ways to fly
And though you've conquered gravity
It still has its toll on me
A stairway to escape this life
and feathers just to keep me warm
And every time the sun goes down
I wonder where the hell you are
Track Name: Last Goodbye
I will quench this burning fire just by turning a light switch off
I will wander across this land painting words in black and white
I've been planning to leave this city but then I just realized
Since the day your eyes met mine I've lost my peace, I've lost my mind

There's no comfort in these words, sometimes they just make it worse
But it seems I can hear the silence singing chants across the room
Fate is carved out of stone, I can take it but not for long
When your face is stained on the apple of my eyes

And this is not a last goodbye
Not even my last attempt, there are many things to try
I will carry you dearly inside my chest
You know I've fooled myself but it's for the best

I have lived, I have loved and I damn sure paid the price
To eternalize the moments when your eyes were into mine
I am giving you this song all I ask is just one smile
To make sure that I will sleep in peace tonight
